Which one?

Clockwise (left to right) : Sony Cybershot WSC-80, WSC-90, WSC-55

Bottom clockwise (left to right) : Canon Powershot A720, IXUS 70 (choice of black or silver rim) and IXUS 75.
All pics are taken from their respective Sony and Canon (Malaysia) websites.

In reference to my previous post on digicams,
I made up my mind. I grabbed the IXUS 70 after contemplating which digicam to buy. I reset my budget to be not more than RM 1200, so the Canon IXUS 860 IS which attracted me the most, is out. I also considered the Sony WSC-55 for a long time. In terms of pricing, we can see from the colourful booklet "It's Sony Time!" WSC-55 has gone down to RM 799. If not mistaken, this model was launched late last year. So with Christmas sales, New Year sales, Sony has come up with discounted prices on its products which include Vaio laptops, Bavaria LCD TVs, Sony Ericsson hps and of course, all its digicams which I'm eyeing for.
The Jusco Members' Day sale yesterday made me bought the IXUS 70. The price: RM 999.
For my value for $ mind, if I buy this model I get free : 2GB SD memory and hard casing. Besides that, sling bag, tripod stand and umbrella. On top of that for Members' Day sale, RM 100 Jusco shopping voucher. And of course in the compulsory package: Li-ion 2.4 V battery and its charger, wrist strap and 1 year warranty. I find getting the 2GB memory is very worth it.
So i just buy it. It's very compact too. IXUS 75 is 3" LCD but settled for 2.5" LCD for the sake of saving RM 100 (price difference between the two).
More about IXUS 70: 7.1 MP, ranked 1st for price under USD 150 ($ wise again..=p), and 3rd under 7 MP category and 5th in ultra compact category besides scoring 'A' in a digicam reviews site. ISO is 80-1600 and was released in March 07.

On Cloud 9

I received a call from Lite FM saying that I have won 2 invites to the Gala Dinner at Shangri-La Hotel to listen to Dionne Warwick live worth RM 1,000!
Yay! My poem is one of the best! Yippy!
A reward for me to attend a concert and go for a short trip down KL after my exams! My last trip to KL was in July, 4 months ago. Last year in August I was there after getting a free shopping voucher at Ikea courtesy of Lite FM too. I'm so lucky with Lite FM!

Dionne Warwick is here in KL, in conjunction with Live and Loud 07.
Oh..I'm on Cloud 9 to be part of this cool event!
I will further update about this event in the next few days.
This coming Sunday, things are happening all over KLCC, KL Convention Centre and many other places as Live and Loud starts on 25 nov till 2 dec.
Now I'm looking for accomodation, on which hotel to stay. KL golden triangle hotels, including Shangri-La are 5 star hotels, and the deluxe rooms are fully booked. Superior ones cost RM 500++...
Till then, brb.

A look on what's happening in MGS

After attending a wedding luncheon of a family friend, my family and I went to MGS. It stands for Malaysian German Society, yeah sounds like Methodist Girls School.

Yesterday they had a Chirstmas bazaar. Yup, very early indeed. It's more than a month b4 Christmas. We saw this event on the Metro section in the Star paper and decided to check it out. It's situated at 250-B Jalan Air Itam.
To make directions simpler to go to this place: It is clustered together with the Hospice and Japanese Association buildings, directly opposite Han Chiang high school. The bungalow of this assoc is right inside the small road, in blue. Hospice is in beige-orange, whilst Japanese assoc is white. We were quiet 'sesat' coz this is the first time we were going there. Guess what, since the address is Jln Air Itam we ended searching through the whole Air Itam (signs on the roads display Air Hitam) right up to Kek Lok Si. We started targeting addresses right after Chung Ling High School. On the left were odd numbers so up we went to KLS, U-turn to and came accross even numbers addresses. But numbers range from single digits to 600+ numbers. Finally, got an idea! Proceeded to search the small area off the road after state mosque and bingo. It's there la.

The place- once you enter on your right is the library. It is stocked with, well, German books. Ranging from History to Humor. There are English books as well. Novels in German are also available. Readable if proficiency is high enuff =P. On the left is where cookies, home-made jams and German sausages (die Wurst) are sold. Upstairs there is a classroom, and in the hall, home-made cakes are sold. There are a variety of cakes. The chocolate cakes (die Schokoladentorte) must not be missed. Even the sellers kept on uttering "Schokoladentorte... ja, ja" to the customers. They were the must trys. Other varieties include Apricot, butter cakes, walnut-coffee, coconut and fruit pastries. They were selling out fast although they cost about RM5 per piece. The taste...wunderbar! Wonderful! Very tasty as the flavours, be it butter, choc or apricot flavours are enhanced as u pop them in your mouth. Since they are home-made, they tasted like those home-mades. Meaning the recipes used are prepared using home techniques with the ready made ingredients. That's why there's a lil ginger taste in the chocolate and bits of nuts here and there. Even the for the apricot cake, some apricot parts were juicy and some-the normal dry apricots.

Outside the premises they were selling those Christmas ornaments that you can hang on the X-Mas trees. Prices ranged from RM 5 to RM 10++. They were all hand-made by Ingel, as were written on the card next to the decos. A X-Mas card costs RM8, and coz it's hand made most of the cards have unique designs with not too many repetition of the same designs. What else can I say about this place... it's a place where they have events throughout the year like movie screenings, language classes and festivals for fund raising. They are supported by members of the expatriats and their family members who work here and for the public. Entrance is free so everyone can just go and have a look and mix around. ;-)

Narrowed Down Choices

After doing some research on the internet, reading reviews and visiting their respective sites, I have narrowed down my favourite digicams into 2 brands : Canon and Sony.
Next on their specific models.
As mentioned before, I am looking for a compact category digicams, also value for $ and with style. Camera models that come close are : Canon (IXUS 70,75, SD 850 IS and PowerShot A720 IS). Meanwhile for Sony (Cybershot DSC-W55, DSC-W80, DSC-W35).
In terms of pricing, they fall in the range of RM 799 - RM 1499! The reason I was attracted to the RM 1499 (out of budget) is the good reviews and many other features that u would want in a compact digicam. BTW, SD 870 has the best review (rated A) and most ideal but it is only available in the States, not in MY yet. If it reaches here, starting price would be RM 1699 onwards, which is out of my budget. But the features are really really cool.

Sony Cybershot range come in fun colours : special baby blue, so sweet pink, sleek solid black and ever-shining silver. (i add those adjectives beside the colour coz that's how it appeals to me).
Pricing for Sony products are always high, but the DSC ranges are value for $, comparable in features too. Also very beautiful and sleek are the T series but I still prefer the lense to be in the centre (coz T series lenses are located on the top corners), so DSC lor. Both brands are between 7.1 megapix to 8 megapix. So I am comparing the price, features, point and shoot factors (minus the fuss of adjusting this and that prior to shooting), battery lifetime and peek to see whether the shops do give the SD memory card or separate memory stick as required by respective models for free..hehe. Most brands include battery chargers and lithium batteries but not external memory.
Now it's time to wait for the discount or sales promotions to begin... ;-)
Meanwhile, I can google further on these products...

Hip Hip Hurray!

Yay! Exams are over!
After enduring 2 stressful weeks I can break free from this big burden of preparing for exams, at least before my second semester begins in December.
I shall have more time to sleep, hang-out with friends, shopping, writing poems..? and perhaps plan what kinda digital camera to buy. I have minimal knowledge on digicams...what kind is suitable for what purpose and with so many brands in the market with competitive prices i just dunno which one to choose.
I am looking for a compact-slim sized digicam with at least 7 megapix. Since i am a beginner, it must be easy to operate with some image stabiliser in it. (I want sharp pictures not blurry ones..) Budget hmmm...i believe putting between RM 700-1.2K will land me with a cool camera. But a big hole in my pocket =p
But i am uncertain when I will make the move to purchase it. I am waiting for year-end sales where they give memory cards for free. Meanwhile, I am eyeing on brands like Canon, Nikon, Olympus. Panasonic and Sony cameras are so cool too...so hard to resist...yaaa..dunno la.

Eyes

Today I went to the optometrist to check my eyes to see how my power has gone up.

Mum : Let's go have your eyes checked. I see u stared so much on the book and your specs also coming apart...time to change specs. lol
Optometrist : Your astigmatism is rather high. The angle has gone up but not the power...maybe due to your stress. Exams huh?
Read this line...~points to the last row~
Me: 0.O yep. ok...umm..that's a u...eh nono o...but looks more like a dot.
