Half-a-sem

I have reached half a sem of sem1...means 7 more weeks to go and sem1 will come to an end.
Since it's halfway going to end, all the tests are coming in very fast. Some subjects have not started the first test out of the two tests, so means lots of cramming on last minute thingy.
I am kinda lost in my german. Hard to pick up....test coming. The tape/cd whenever being played....makes up into this situation:
no matter how hard i try to listen, the german accent is so deep. previous level still ok, coz limited words and vocab..but now the gap is so large. many grammar based sentences, new words and expressions. I listen once get nothing. Listen twice get 2 words. Listen 3 times, get 3 words?? Oh no...max times to listen is 3 la..and i don't have that kinda cd to play many times to my liking..it was supposed to be a 6 to 12 sentences or one paragraph of passage...
Coming up.. listening test. I hope my ears listen well, and of course understand well, and pick up the meaning as well.

Also, photonics, electronics and other tests...gotta run!

Updates for the past 2 weeks

For the last 2 weeks I had been very busy.
From 8th to 12th August I went to KL for the convention. 2 sleepless nights prior to the trip was due to preparations that had to be made.
The trip down KL was research based so we made many stops along the highway to take down datas. The trip started at 9 am from Penang and ended in KL at 9 pm, equivalent to reaching Singapore by bus. =p
We detoured to many places such as from the Butterworth toll, right up to the Perak region such as Kamunting, Taiping (including the lake), Sungkhai, Sungai Kalah, Ipoh. Also, we stopped to take pictures and readings of limestone hills and oil palm estates.

Armed with gadgets worth more than RM 100K and travelling 5 in one Ford Ranger truck, we were like researcher freaks who took every opportunity to snap, jot, set up and did some calibration. Moreover, the truck is a yellow in colour bearing the name School of Physics so we better behaved ourselves coz we were carrying our Uni's name. Haha...
We worked as quickly as possible to avoid unwanted attention. Carrying those equipments bearing the label Hak Milik PP Fizik means we do not want those things to be stolen, or we, being hijacked.
Curious onlookers asked what were we doing. we replied... adequate to answer their questions.

When we reached KL and by the time we reached our hotel, things we not as they were expected. We checked in into one of the most faulty 3 star hotel room that I have ever came across. We thought after a tiring day we can relax...only to dicovered first, we 3 girls who shared the room started to sneeze. We noticed that the air in the room is the culprit. The room clearly looked dusty. I pointed out that the desks and cupboards beneath is covered with at least 3mm of dust! It was unoccupied for many weeks or the housekeeping is not doing their job?...minus the cob webs...thank goodness. It was late so we just took bath, unpack our things, stored the expensive equipment in the safe and called it a day. But our stomachs were rumbling, so we decided to have supper. We went to a mamak stall nearby and had roti canai. Upon coming back, we discovered that the lights in our room is faulty.

Slide the card a few times and the lights won't turn on. One moment only the front portion lights will on, another moment nothing at all. After several attempts, we managed to lit up the room. There were no jug kettle but there were 3 in 1 sachets of coffee and tea. Weird, we need hot water to prepare those drinks. We picked up the phone and it's dead. The line is out of order. So we requested for a jug kettle, and informing the telephone prob, by taking the lift from the 23rd floor down to the lobby. The kettle arrived-nearly 2 am when we nearly fell asleep.

Thurday night was even funnier. We had a short circuit. The room just blackout when it was just fine a moment ago. Again, we took the ever so slow lift down to complain. There at the receptionist counter we witnessed a rude receptionist raising his voice over a tourist who merely wanted to change room. That explained the condition of this terrible hotel. Oh ya, upon telling them that we had a blackout, we were told that they were sending a technician up there immediately.
Well, it took 30 minutes! We waited along the corridor in front of our room like stranded occupants. We found out that our neighbour is facing the same problem and the kind lady lend us to use her phone to call them to ask why it took them so long. Finally, the technician arrived and electricity is restored. But the card problem had not been solved. So every trip back will be a few attempts on the card to keep all the lights on. =(
We did not lodge complain anymore coz 1. any complains will mean at least 15 minutes spent on the queue...the service is xtremely slow. 2. By the time we reach our hotel, it's always late at night. Always caught in jam, getting lost and at the same time exploring places, looking for nice food in PJ area- after the convention ended at 6pm every day. 3. We try to avoid unknown repairmen to come in to fix the room when we were away... too many valuable things hidden in the room.

During the convention, we had lots of experiences. There were many visitors. Some were very positive and responsive. Some, unfortunately were very negative and kept critisizing when we can't even finish stating our point. They try to put their disatisfaction across when actually they are unhappy about something and tried to involve us as a whole.
We ended the thing by gaining silver after the convention ended on sunday. At least we did not come home empty handed. There were many improvements that can be made to our product in future. This time public unis are stressing on products which can be commercialised, and most importantly, sustainable. Hence, to be able to attract business partners, our products must have these aspects and they must be reliable. Researchers who come up with these products must have the knowledge to develop and market these products properly. They must be convincing, and they too must keep improvising the product till it is fully reliable.

After a exhausting trip and adventure there I went back to lectures on monday.
Tuesday night before my night class, a mishap happened. Accident. on the 14 august, exactly 2 months before my birthday.
I was unhurt but my car...what a waste. Side front portion and driver side door . My tyre absorbed the impact. So the tyre was sacrificed. My car was dragged to the opposite side coz i can't steer it when the tyre is rammed. I can't even open the door properly to get out coz it's stucked. Horrible. The oncoming car did not break - on time. He came fast and I had judged his distance wrongly with his speed. I am lucky to be here.. still able to do things that I wish to do.
I shall never attempt to cross a 4 lane road from a junction. I don't want to take anymore risk. No matter how experienced I am next time.
